The capacitance time constant is a physical quantity that characterizes the speed of response change in the transient process of the circuit. It has a time dimension. The smaller the time constant of the circuit, the faster its response change, and vice versa.
The time constant is the product of resistance and capacitance CR. If the unit of C is μF (microfarad) and the unit of R is MΩ (megaohm), the unit of the time constant T is s (seconds).
