TPS2553-Q1 (Precision Adjustable Current-Limited Power-Distribution Switches)

Introduction

The TPS2553-Q1 power-distribution switch is intended for applications where precision current limiting is required or heavy capacitive loads and short circuits are encountered. It provides up to 1.5 A of continuous load current. This device offers a programmable current-limit threshold between 75 mA and 1.7 A (typical) via an external resistor. At the higher current-limit settings, we can achieve a tight current-limit accuracy of ±6%. We control the rise and fall times of the power switch to minimize current surges during turn on and off.

The TPS2553-Q1 device limits the output current to a safe level by using a constant-current mode when the output load exceeds the current-limit threshold. The power switch disables when the output voltage exceeds the input voltage, protecting devices on the input side of the switch, through an internal reverse-voltage comparator. The FAULT output asserts low during overcurrent and reverse-voltage conditions.
